Cannabis, also known as Delta-9 and marijuana, among other names, is a psychoactive drug from the Cannabis plant used primarily for medical or recreational purposes. The main psychoactive component of cannabis is tetrahydrocannabinol (TCH), which is one of the 483 known compounds in the plant, including at least 65 other cannabinoids.
Cannabis can be used by smoking, vaping, within food, or as an extract. Frequent marijuana use can have a significant negative effect on the brains of teenagers and young adults.
Negative effects include:
Difficulty thinking and problem solving
Problems with memory and learning
Impaired coordination
Difficulty maintaining attention
Signs of marijuana
use include:
Your teen may have red, bloodshot eyes or may be using an over-the-counter eye drop product (Visine) to mask red-eye symptoms
Your teen could be very giddy or very tired, depending on when they got high
Your teen may get the “munchies” and be hungry for anything they can get their hands on
Your teen may be paranoid or anxious, or experiencing mood changes
Drug paraphernalia such as pipes, rolling papers, vaping devices and plastic baggies (with residue)
New friends
Incense or air freshener products to mask the smell of marijuana coming from their room
